pf-21k-challengeRunners always find ways to improve themselves – be it in their speed, distance that they run and even going into multisport. I’ve known quite a lot of runners who prefer to run half-marathons. Is running the same distance over and over boring and does not make a runner more efficient? The answer is a no. There are various ways a runner can do to make running half-marathons more challenging, more fun and more exciting. And one way to do that is by simply beating your previous personal best.

2016 Sofitel Manila Half-Marathon

What does it take to make a difference in the lives of the children? Government and private organisations have put up institutions that support and provide health care, education, livelihood and other basic necessities for countless underprivileged individuals and families in various locations in the country.

One of these notable organisations is the Virlanie Foundation. Founded by French social worker Dominique Lemay, the Virlanie Foundation houses street children and impoverished families in the metro. Through the foundation, these children were given proper care and are able to go to school. Some of them have already finished a college degree and are giving back to the community by supporting the foundation. There are livelihood programs that Virlanie provide to the families who are under its care.

Such selflessness by Mr. Lemay has gone a long way, and even radiates to each one of us. It is in this aspect that Sofitel Philippine Plaza partnered with top running organiser Runrio, Inc. to stage a yearly Sofitel Manila Half-marathon, which is is now on its third year. What’s in it for us? And as runners, we can do our share by registering for the event. The proceeds of the race will benefit the children and their families under the Virlanie Foundation.

Coming from Coach Rio dela Cruz, “We hope to continue engaging runners to join events like the Sofitel Manila Half-Marathon that not only is a hub for both amateur and professional runners but also serves a noble purpose – to make a difference in the lives of the children of Manila through the Virlanie Foundation.”

I am inviting everyone to once again join me in this worthy cause and let’s all do our share in helping others just don’t sleep on their dreams but making their dreams a reality.

Live. Run. Smile.

Final PosterNot all children are born with a perfect smile because some were born with a cleft lip and/or cleft palate. It’s disheartening that some people and some companies look at this physical deformity as abnormality, even incapacity to perform, that most of these individuals don’t get the equal treatment and privileges. Because of their condition, they have felt inferior and lost the their self-confidence. But there is something we can do to bring back the equal privileges that these individuals deserve by putting a smile on their faces.

I am inviting you all to join the Live Run Smile, that in our own small way, we can help put back the smile on their faces. Because every child deserves a beautiful smile. This race supports the Noordhoof Craniofacial Foundation Philippines, Inc. (ncfpi). For more on NCFPI, click HERE.
