After his successful stint at the Jr. NBA Philippines program as an All Star Alumni having gone to the US for their NBA Experience and meeting some of the players of LA Lakers right at the Staples Center, Gian Mamuyac has gone a long way. He played varsity basketball for Ateneo de Manila High School, and is currently a member of Batang Gilas, the Philippine Basketball Team U-17. Suffice it to say that his basketball handling skills are undoubtedly way beyond par.

His passion for basketball is relentless such that Gian Mamuyac takes every opportunity to get his hands on the sport. With the help of Under Armour Philippines and Slam, our Batang Gilas recently flew to Taipei together with UP Integrated School’s point guard Juan Gomez de Liano, for the final leg of the Stephen Curry Asia Tour presented by Under Armour on September 6, 2016.

From amongst the participants, Gian Mamuyac made the cut of the top ten players for a scrimmage with no less than Stephen Curry. In the last five seconds, Stephen Curry attempted to make a three-point buzzer beating shot only to be blocked by Gian Mamuyac. That may have been a surprise for the NBA’s back-to-back MVP but Stephen Curry took the loss openly. Steph was seen later on posing for a photo with Gian Mamuyac.

After that surprising game-ender, the crowd screamed for a rewind of the last five seconds. Stephen Curry and Gian Mamuyac gave in to the request to the delight of all who watched the scrimmage. This time, Steph didn’t miss that three-point shot that should have wrapped up the game.

Gian Mamuyac’s stellar performance during the scrimmage won him the Stephen Curry Asia Tour Taipei camp Most Valuable Player title, and a slot for the three-day intensive training at the main Stephen Curry Camp in the United States in 2017 worth $4,000.00.
