As a runner, I have developed a high tolerance for pain which resulted from the rigorous trainings and participation in road and trail races. These races, which range from 5 kilometres to half marathon, marathons and ultramarathons such as 100 kilometres, got me used to all sorts of muscular pains.

Coming home from an out of town job assignment covering a sports event in Tacloban City, I felt a searing pain right off my left shoulder. Since I’m not a fan of medicines for pain management, I tried the cold compress and later on, a hot compress to relieve the pain. A day later however, the pain aggravated causing too much discomfort which limited the movements of my left arm.

When I came to ActiveLife Chicago PT clinic, PT Albert Santiago first did an assessment of the injured part. The pain could have been due to an impingement of the nerve or could be due to some torn muscular tissue. Since the pain was not caused by an accident or there were no fractures, a laser treatment was applied on the injured area to speed up the healing of any torn tissue and to aid for faster recovery. To promote tissue healing and increase blood supply in the affected area, PT Albert used a special machine which emits electrical impulses through a couple of probe handles. After these two procedures, my physical rehab specialist did a series of stretching specifically designed to loosen tight muscles in the affected area.

Led by Dr. Ron Samaniego, a Doctor of Physical Therapy trained in Chicago, USA, ActiveLife Chicago PT uses new approaches to pain management and rehabilitation.

At ActiveLife Chicago PT clinic, your injury will be assessed accordingly and you will be given the treatment based on that assessment. No false hopes given. And generally, right after the first treatment, you will already feel relieved. For minor injuries, one treatment is all you need. And depending on the severity of your injury, the treatment may require you more PT sessions. The licensed physical therapists exactly know what they’re doing from assessment of the injury to the treatment procedures that’s why patients get the value for their money.

In my case, after that single treatment, I no longer felt any pain or discomfort on my left shoulder. No over the counter drugs to relieve the pain. Just one ActiveLife Chicago PT session. Coming from a school event that morning and travelling from Cainta to Shaw Boulevard was all worth it!

Currently, Dr. Ron Samaniego has already strategically put up several clinics around the metro including Cityland Shaw Tower, Nuvali, Binondo, Fairview, Quezon Avenue, Makati City, Antipolo, Alabang. With a clinic near you, getting treated for shoulder, knee, joints, lower back problems is no longer a painful story.

  1. Very interesting read. Love how you put “I am not a fan of medicines for pain managment”–me too, but does yours include natural remedies using herbs?

    • Hi, Katrina! Glad to hear from you back! Unfortunately, I’m not into using herbs either since I don’t have access to such as I live in city. But when I was a lot younger and I was living in the countryside, yes. My granny or my parents would grab some leaves for wounds or for some swelling.
