The Jr. NBA-WNBA program is a junior basketball program by the National Basketball Association that aims to discover athletes, develop and nurture them to become champions. Jr. NBA-WNBA Philippines is aligned with Alaska Milk’s program that shape, train, challenge and inspire children to achieve their dreams and aspirations in life.

First time and returning junior basketeers made their way through different skills stations to showcase their basketball handling skills under the watchful eyes of the Jr. NBA-WNBA Coaches led by Jr. NBA Coach Craig Brown and Alaska Basketball Director Jeff Cariaso.

Jr. NBA-WNBA All Star Alumni Akemi Marteja, Micaela Pentecostes, Rhayyan Amsali, SJ Belangel, Joshua Garing and Daniel Coo happily joined the first day of the Manila selection to further inspire the athletes to do their best by sharing their experiences during the NBA Experience trip abroad. They also shared their insights as they watched the young aspirants completed each set of skills test. They also emphasised that STAR values helped them to become better athletes, on and off court.

Jr. WNBA All Star Alumni Akemi Marteja shared that among the STAR values, positive Attitude gives her a winning character because it gives her a good outlook in life and in every game – win or lose.

Forty boys and 24 girls are returning to the second day of the selection camp. They will train with the Jr. NBA-WNBA coaches and will be grouped into teams for the scrimmage later in the day. The players who will be chosen at the end of the selection camp will advance to the National Training Camp camp to be held in Don Bosco Technical Institute on April 22-13, with a culminating activity happening at the SM MOA Music Hall on April 24, 2016. They will join other athletes from Baguio, Cebu and Davao legs of the selection.

To further instil the importance of nutrition among active children, participants have free access to the Alaska Milk bar, which serves chilled milk to help them stay hydrated and nourished.
