Cyclists Rule at the BGC Cycle Asia Philippines 2015


Cyclists of all ages converged for a weekend of cycling fun at the recently concluded BGC CycleAsia Philippines on November 21-22, 2015 at 30th St., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Parents took the sidelines cheering for their little ones and mini-me’s as soon as the young riders were flagged off from the starting line.

2 to 3 year old riders,  accompanied by their parents took the challenge of the 100 metre Tricyle Ride, while the 4 to 5 year old riders completed the 500 metre Tricyle Ride. The Kids’ Ride saw 5 to 9 year olds in the 5.5 kilometre ride, as the 10 to 12 year olds showed their cycling skills in the 30-minute ride in the Junior Challenge category. The Junior Challenge category allows the rider to complete as much mileage as he can within the 30-minute window. Triathletes and Alaska Aces muses Tara Borlain and Chezka Borlain joined other cyclists their age in the 30-minute bike ride.

The morning’s activities concluded at the activity area where all riders received their well-deserved finisher’s medals as soon as crossed the finish line. BGC CyleAsia Philippines proved not only as a cycling event but also as a bonding for all the families. Young riders also enjoyed the post-ride activities such as the bull ride and the kiddie inflatables.

On Sunday, November 22, were the Adult Ride categories. The event kicked-off with the Ride with Robbie, which is a 40-kilometre ride with Australian former PRO cyclist and three-time Tour de France green jersey sprinter’s classification winner Robbie McEwen. It was followed by the 40km Challenge Ride and the 20km Community and Foldies Community Rides.

According to Mr. Manuel Blas II, Head of Commercial Operations for Fort Bonifacio Development Corp., “The participation in Cycle Philippines through the years have shown us that cycling is here to stay and that it is going beyond being a hobby and sport where people are more and more using it as an alternative mode of transportation to get around the metro. This insight pushed us to implement more bike racks around the city. Furthermore, it also inspired us to experiment with a bike-sharing program which will be launched in the near future.”
