Filipino Bloggers Join the ASEAN Malaysia Tourism Hunt 2015

To further promote Malaysia as a holiday destination of choice among first time and frequent travellers, Tourism Malaysia invited a total of 40 media and bloggers from ten ASEAN countries, Malaysia included, to participate in the inaugural ASEAN Media Bloggers Tourism Hunt 2015.

With the theme “Fun and Enjoyable Drive to Experience Malaysia,” the 6-day mega familiarisation program saw the participants driving from Kuala Lumpur through Putrajaya, down to Port Dickson, and to Malacca, engaging them in various tasks, challenges and visiting tourist attractions, while exploring the many exciting go-to places around Malaysia in a treasure hunt/amazing race inspired concept.

While the main event didn’t kick off until the 18th of October, the participants flew in to Kuala Lumpur as early as October 16, 2015, to be acquainted with the city and the local culture, attend program briefing, get assigned to their respective cars, meet the Tourism Ministry officials through welcome receptions, get to know the other delegates, and be part of the annual Citrawarna festival.

The honourable Minister of Tourism and Culture YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz signalled the flag off of all 25 cars on October 18, 2015, at the Malaysia Tourist Information Centre (MATIC) in Jalan Ampang. The cars were properly labelled with the official flag of participants from Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia.

“The ASEAN Media Bloggers Tourism Hunt is especially created with the media and bloggers in mind to give them a new and exciting perspective of Malaysia as a tourist destination,” shared YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz at the press conference prior to the flag off.

“This programme will help us to enhance relationships with the members of the ASEAN media and bloggers. It’s a fun way to introduce and promote new destinations and products to the ASEAN market through the media and bloggers who have a popular following back home.”

“Moreover, the participants can assess for themselves the quality of infrastructure and safety of the driving in Malaysia. The programme will help promote Malaysia as a self-drive holiday destination,” YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz concluded.

The Philippines was represented by Rochelle Rivera, Sarah Tirona, Jude Bacalso and myself.

On a personal note, Malaysia Tourism Hunt is a good venue to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Malaysia. Now, allow me to take you through this six-day journey in my Malaysia chronicles.
