Jr. NBA Philippines Turns Eight

Jr. NBA Jr. WNBAThe. Jr NBA and Jr. WNBA program is back on its eighth year in the Philippines, which officially launched on January 24, 2015, at the British School Manila, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The kick off was led by Alaska Milk CEO Fred Uytengsu, NBA Philippines Country Manager Carlo Singson, and Alaska Milk VP for Marketing Blen Fernando.

For five consecutive years now, Alaska Milk is the presenting partner of the Jr. NBA program here in the country, which is aligned with the brand’s mission of discovering and developing young talents, and to promote a healthy and active lifestyle through sports and nutrition.

The 2015 Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA season opens with a Coaches’ clinic on January 24, and an open clinic held on January 25 at the British School Manila, which was led by Jr. NBA coach Chris Sumner. “We’re on our eighth year, and I’m extremely excited,” Coach Chris Sumner said in an interview.

“Basketball is a game of fun, and we’re looking forward for the kids to have as much fun as possible, but also to come out and learn something. Learn new basketball skills. Also, our Jr. NBA program is highly emphasising the STAR values,” he further added.

Coach Chris also invited aspiring champions to join the program. “I encourage all of you athletes to come on out and participate. You’ll never know how far you can go until you come and give it a try. Come learn something from the great coaching staff that we have. And we look forward to see you at our next clinics.”

This year, the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA Philippines is proud to announce that the 10-time PBA All Star and now coach, Jeffrey Cariaso is joining the core coaching staff of the program. “Jr. NBA has a tremendous program that gives children the chance to experience what I experienced. I’m gonna help coach in anyway I can. Help develop. And that’s really my goal.”

“I was in their shoes. Through hardwork and determination, and all the core values that we talk about, I was able to somehow make it to experience playing for 15 years in the PBA, and now I’m coaching. If I could do it, you could. Start somewhere. And no place better to start than JR. NBA,” shared Coach Jeff Cariaso.

On top of his Jr. NBA coaching duties, Coach Jeff Cariaso will also assume the role of the Basketball Director for Alaska Basketball Power Camp.

Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA Philippines is a program open to aspiring young basketball enthusiasts, 10 to 14 years old. Basketball clinics will be conducted in various schools in Metro Manila and in various key cities in the country. Regional Selection Camps will be held at the following locations: Puerto Princesa, Binan, Iloilo, Baguio, Bacolod, Davao and Manila. Selected campers will move up to the National Training Camp scheduled on April 24-26, 2015, at the PICC Forum and MOA Music Hall. Ten boys and five girls will be selected from among the pool of participants who will form part of this year’s Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All Star Team.

In addition, the program will also pick the 2015 Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA Coaches of the Year.

The Jr.NBA and Jr. WNBA All Star Team and the Coaches of the year will also have the opportunity to travel abroad for the NBA Experience, watch NBA game and to meet the NBA players.
