Coach Pia Dysangco did not expect that she will be chosen as the first 2014 Jr. WNBA Philippines Coach of Year. Her love and passion for the sport coupled with the basketball handling skills she learned through the years put her to where she is now.

During her college days, she was already into the sports where she played for the Philippine Team in Under19. Currently, she is the head coach of St. Stephen’s High School Girls Basketball Team.

Coach Pia is not just a coach, but also a second mother to the athletes in her team. As a coach, she always instills the value of discipline, reminding her wards to study well so they can play more basketball, and to take care of their body. She monitors her athletes to ensure that they make good grades, and encourages them to attend tutorials.

As the Coach of the Year, she had the privilege to travel to Beijing along with the Jr.NBA and Jr. WNBA All Star Team and with Jr. NBA Philippines COY Cliff Tesocan.

The trip was an opportunity for her to meet other Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA Coaches of the Year from Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and coaching skills that she can incorporate in her coaching.

Her message to all aspiring athletes: “If you want to excel, practice hard. Get enough rest and eat properly.”
