The 2012 Cobra IronMan 70.3 Philippines

Cebu City, the Queen City of the South, hosts the 4th edition of Cobra Energy Drink IronMan 70.3 Philippines on August 5, 2012.

For this time, the participants will experience the 1.2 mile swim leg of the race in the sea starting at the beach of the Shangri – La Mactan Resort & Spa, in Mactan Island. The participants have to do two loops of the swim course to complete the swim leg. From the transition point, racers take on their bikes and will cover the four municipalities of the province of Cebu – Lapu Lapu City, Mandaue, Cebu City and Talisay, crossing the Marcelo Fernan Bridge in the 56 mile bike ride. The run leg of the race takes place at the Punta Engano Road, Lapu Lapu City.

IronMan 70.3 Philippines promises a great adventure and experience to all the 1,319 individual racers and 115 relay teams from 31 countries. This event will test the strength and endurance of all the players as they take on the challenges of the swim, bike and run legs of the race.

Athlete registration is open on August 2 – 4, 2012 at The Marquee, Shangri – La Mactan. Bike course Ride Out 1 and 2 are scheduled on August 3 at 2pm and August 4 at 10am, respectively. Swim course opens on August 4 from 9am to 12 noon, and from 1 to 4pm, at Shangri – La Mactan Beach. Race briefings follow at 4:30pm and at 5pm.

On the front line are the professional triathletes from the likes of Pete Jacobs, Cameron Brown, Justin Granger, Chris Lieto, Dan Brown, Terenzo Bozzone, Fredrik Croneberg, Erich Felbabel, Kodo Hiramatsu, Amanda Stevens, Belinda Granger, Bree Wee, Michelle WU, Alaska Team TBB’s David Dellow, Mathieu O’Halloran, Caroline Steffen and Ali Fitch.

Pete Jacobs will do his best to defend his position as the Cobra Energy Drink 70.3 IronMan Philippines champion for two consecutive years, the 2010 and 2011 edition. Terenzo Bozzone is back in the game who won in 2009. Australia’s Belinda Granger faces another challenge as she defends her position as the IronMan 70.3 Philippines 2011 Champion. Not having raced in the Century Tuna 5i50 in Subic in June, Alaska Team TBB’s Caroline Steffen bounces back from her recent victory as she bagged the first place in the 2012 IronMan Asia Pacific Championship in Melbourne. Will Amanda Stevens, who placed second in 2011, snatch the top position from Granger in the women’s category this time?

The Filipino Elite category includes Arland Macasieb of FilAmTri, Monica Torres and LC Langit of 3 is Greater than 1, Neil Catiil and 13 others. Aside from the professional and elite racers, also watch out for the triathletes in various age categories.

Triathlon has become one of the highly – anticipated sporting events in the country today. It has attracted more and more participants every year since its first edition in 2009.

The 2012 Cobra Energy Drink 70.3 IronMan Philippines is presented by Globe Telecom; Philippine Airlines as the official carrier; media partners are Multisport Magazine, The Philippine Star and Studio 23.
